The “Anniversary of NO”, which mentions the denial of the small resistive country of Greece against the Nazi conquest on October 28th of 1940, is celebrated with national pride annually. Three months before the anniversary, on the tragic day of July 23rd 2018, the country was marked by terrible, deadly rapid fires that burned the area of Neo Voutza and the seaside settlement of Mati, in the wider prefecture of the capital city. Apart from the immeasurable material damage to more than 1,500 homes surrendered to the flames and many vehicles, the fire was the most lethal of the modern Greek state leaving back 102 people dead and hundreds injured.
