Hungary is a country in Central Europe and a member of the European Union and the Schengen area. The country offers many different destinations, low mountains, plains, lakes and rivers, and many beautiful small villages and towns. Lake Balaton is the largest in Central Europe. With a thriving culture and economy, it is an important destination in the wider region.

That is why it is one of the most popular tourist destinations, with a capital that is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Despite its relatively small size, Hungary has many World Heritage Sites. It has over 1000 spas (more than 100 in the Budapest area alone) many of which have been converted into spas. The most famous are the Szechenyi Baths in Budapest.

Budapest is a city-jewel that every traveler must visit. History buffs can admire the mix of Romanesque, Gothic Revival, Renaissance and Ottoman architecture at sites such as Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion.

Budapest is much more than the political capital of Hungary – it is the commercial and cultural center, the pearl of the Danube.

Hungary has interesting cuisine. The national spice is paprika and the national dish is of course goulash.
