Ivory Coast

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฎ

Ivory Coast is a country in West Africa, bordered by Ghana, Liberia, Burkina Faso and Guinea, and washed by the Atlantic Ocean. It is a country full of contrasts: modern megacities and remote traditional villages, skyscrapers and rainforests, beaches and savannahs. A place that strongly combines the pulse of the present with the roots of the past.

The capital Yamoussoukro is home to one of the most impressive, and little-known monuments on the continent: the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, which resembles St. Peter’s in Rome and is one of the largest Christian buildings in the world.

The economic and cultural heart of the country, however, beats in Abidjan, a modern metropolis with a West African style. The Plateau district, with its tall buildings and wide avenues, is reminiscent of a European metropolis, while the Treichville and Cocody areas are full of life, sounds, aromas and local flavors.

Once you leave the cities, the country rewards you with its nature. The Taรฏ National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the largest virgin rainforests in Africa. It is home to chimpanzees, monkeys, elephants and rare bird species. Grand-Bassam is the old colonial capital and today a picturesque coastal town with charming colonial buildings, museums and sandy beaches.

In the interior of the country, tribes such as the Baoulรฉ, Senufo and Dan keep centuries-old traditions alive. The art of woodcarving, masks, ceremonial dances and local celebrations give visitors the opportunity to see an authentic and colorful aspect of the West African soul.

The trip to Ivory Coast was not a tourist trip, nor even a trip of adventure and experience. Thus, this article will not cover the usual tourist attractions, which are scarce in West Africa anyway.
The purpose of this trip was a moving humanitarian initiative. in two poor villages in the country.

Every trip to Africa floods me with emotions, but this humanitarian mission to Ivory Coast was extremely moving in every moment.

We at Planet Voyagers implemented a vision, an awareness-raising initiative of the company LERIDIS S.A. offering a portion of its profit back to society

We visited a West African country that has experienced the suffering of civil war and is trying stand on its feet with pride and dignity. With these values, the people of the villages of Taki 1 and Taki 2 welcomed us, with unexpectedly formal honors and expressed a big โ€œthank youโ€ for our offer: food for dozens of families, clothes and stationery for 500 students and a computer for the schools.

Because half of Africa’s population is children, children are the future of our planet and education is the hope, the “food” for a better life.

We made a promise to return to Ivory Coast soon, hoping to transfer the offer of other individuals or organizations. What started as a private initiative, let it grow, giving hope to even more children.
