Romania is a country located in southeastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula, with a coastline in the Black Sea to the southeast. The country has a population of approximately 19 million people and its capital and largest city is Bucharest. The official language is Romanian and the country has a diverse mix of cultures and historical influences, including Roman, Ottoman, and Slavic. The economy of Romania is largely based on services, industry, and agriculture, with significant contributions from the IT sector. The country is a member of the European Union, but not the Schengen Area.

Romania has a rich and complex history, marked by periods of invasion, domination, and independence.

Romania was inhabited by the Dacian people prior to the arrival of the Romans in the 2nd century AD. The Romans established the province of Dacia, which covered a large part of modern-day Romania. After the Roman Empire declined, Romania was ruled by various invading powers, including the Ottoman Turks, who ruled for several centuries. During this time, the country was divided into several principalities, including Wallachia and Moldavia, which would eventually become the modern state of Romania. In the 19th century, the two principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia were united into a single country, and Romania declared independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1878. Romania was a member of the Axis powers during World War II and was occupied by the Soviet Union after the war. The country became a communist state under Soviet influence and remained so until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. After the fall of communism, Romania transitioned to a multiparty democracy and market economy. Today, Romania is a vibrant and dynamic country, with a rich cultural heritage and a growing economy.
